Question: Read the scenarios below and discuss the type of discrimination being displayed by the schools that these two different students attend. Discuss some of the solutions or ideas to support the students in participating in these scheduled events with their peers.

Scenario 1 - A Year 10 Science class plans an excursion to "Science World". James who has Downs syndrome is excluded from the excursion as the Science teacher believes he will not be able to participate in the planned activities provided by Education staff at Science World.

Scenario 2 - James, a student who has cerebral palsy, is in Year 6. He uses a Kelly Walker to support his mobility. All the Year 6 classes take place on the 2nd storey floor of an old brick building. James knows that he will be unable to walk up the stairs and there is no lift in the old building. His family requests at James's Student Support Group meeting for the Year 6 class to be moved to the ground floor. The school advised that this will not happen in this school as the ground floor is allocated for the much younger students such as Foundation and Year 1 classrooms.
