The A walk through the gardens report finds that the RBGDT makes a $140 million economic contribution to the NSW economy (see Page 1.) Appendix A: Measuring the economic contribution (Page 23) discusses how the total economic contribution was calculated, and the Limitations of economic contribution studies provides further insight.

a. How does the direct contribution in the report differ from a benefit to society as defined in standard CBAs?

b. Tourism revenue is the largest source of economic contribution. If this report was conducted from a federal Australian perspective instead of a NSW perspective, would this change the accounting of tourism spending?

c. Relatedly, Deloitte Access assumed that 19% of international tourists would extend their NSW trip by one day, and the remainder by 81%, in order to visit the Garden.

Assume this was not the case and the Garden has no impact on the decision by tourists of how long to stay. How would this change the contribution from tourists?
