Discussion question: Compare the different meanings, connotations, and associations related to framing the recipient of care as a "patient," a "participant," or a "client." What term is used in the environment of care you identified in Discussion 1? What term most aligns with your perspective, and why? Classmate discussion response: The term used in end-of-life care and working with the elderly is "client." Individuals in the two environments will receive a lot of services, hence the use of the term "client" (Taels et al., 2021).

Also, people receiving care in the two environments are not in a hospital and using a term such as "patient" is not ideal for their well-being. However, the term that most aligns with my perspective is "participant." I believe any person receiving social work services should actively participate in the process. Active participation promotes the provision of personalized care, which is linked to positive health outcomes. Also, in the current setting, a social worker will service people from different cultural backgrounds (Gehlert & Browne, 2019). Thus, using a one-size-fits-all approach that does not include the recipient's view is not ideal. An emphasis on recipient participation ascertains that social work services attain the desired outcomes.
