With that in mind, discuss the status of human categories such as Race, Gender, and Disability. Do they genuinely exist? If so, what is their metaphysical status, i.e., in what form or sense do they exist? For example, do you think they are "natural kinds" (i.e., exist in nature regardless of how anyone may think of or perceive them? Or, do you regard them as social constructs? If so, why? If not, why not?
Finally, what does your view say about social and philosophical issues -- such as racism, misogyny, equality, equity, etc. -- surrounding these categories? (For example, some people argue that Race is a social construct and that we can get rid of it if we decide to. They further argue that, given the persistence of racism and inequality, getting rid of the categories would be a good idea. Others argue that, even though Race is a social construct, we are better served conserving racial categories to track inequality or remedy historical wrongs.)
