Discussion 250 words:
Discuss the role of Change, Innovation, Experimentation, and Risk in association with effective leadership in organizations. Use the assigned reading and lesson material to support your assertions. Instructions:
What is the purpose of a forum?
Think of the forum as a classroom experience where you "meet" with your instructor and peers to discuss the weekly topic in terms of the readings, assignments and resources that have been assigned. The desired outcome is that you are able to (1) collaborate with peers and the instructor, (2) demonstrate your understanding of the material, and (3) participate as a member of an online community. Critical Analysis - Discussion postings display an excellent understanding of the required readings and underlying concepts including correct use of terminology. Postings are made in time for others to read and respond as well as deliver information that is full of thought, insight, and analysis. The information presented makes connection to previous or current content or to real-life situations, and must contain rich and fully developed new ideas, connections, or applications. (It is important that you integrate the weekly readings in your response. One way to do that is to make position statements, then discuss supporting evidence (i.e. research and/or personal experience).

Leadership is a forever changing event. There will always be a better way to lead or a new style emerging. Change, innovation, experimentation, and risk are key elements into the cycle of new leadership techniques.
Change is associated with leadership due to the forever changing ways of styles of leadership. It is not a negative thing as change is sometimes good. It allows styles of leadership that maybe were not as effective to become effective by a small change in the style.
Innovation is associated with leadership by the new ideas stemming from change. It is new ideas of leadership and making it to where that style works and if efficient. Innovation is a key role in styles of leadership because without out it there would only be one way of leadership.
Experimentation is associated with leadership because in order to put your idea of leadership to work you have to experiment with it. Testing your ideas to see how accurate they are or to fix the parts that did not work as well as you thought initially.
Risk is associated with leadership because to be a leader you have to take risk. Not only determining which style of leadership works for you is risky, but implementing that style is as well. You as a leader have the trust of your followers you are not only risking your best interests, but all of theirs as well.
All of these tie together when you are thinking of existing leadership and coming up with new styles. Change will be here always, with change comes innovation of new styles, experimentation also comes with change by tweaking styles of leadership and creating new ones, and risk is associated with everything.

As our lesson talks about this week, real change is messy and hard to get but not impossible. There are many challenges a leader will face when incorporating change to an organization. Naturally, humans don't like change because of the unknown and the risk associated with it. Kotter (2007), in his explanation of company transformation struggles, found that change is essential but exceedingly problematic. An organization can get comfortable in the status quo, resulting in them not being as successful as others that embrace change to make processes better. "Within management of innovation is a need for a cognitive approach that can manage the problem of human attention that focuses on paying attention to new ideas" (Aviles, P. R., & Dent, E. B. pg. 49, 2015). Aviles talks about how humans gravitate to what is known verses what is unknown or different from what has always been done. The leader has to break these barriers to get through to real progress of moving an organization forward. A good leader has multiple tools to attack different scenarios, but sometime they need to fail and break the system to find out where their problems are. I had a leader say once in my organization "sometimes you need to fumble the ball to win the game". This thinking goes against everything we understand about getting the job done. In contrast, this helps create innovation, by letting your team know that it is ok to make mistakes in the pursuit of innovation. It could look great on paper but when put into action could be a complete failure, but we learn from that. This is when the coaching and delegation style from a leader can really help. They give the follower direction and authority to develop ideas and learn. Without these concepts we would never have the technology we have today if leaders were directing and controlling everything in a followers work.
