Question 1
Identify and discuss the problems with either heavily regulating or eliminating general aviation in the U.S. What would result?
One of the main issues with heavy regulation is that it could increase the cost of owning and operating aircraft, which could lead to businesses or individuals being dissuaded from using general aviation. This would limit access to smaller, regional airports and could negatively impact smaller communities that rely on general aviation for economic benefits such as air ambulance services and tourism.
Eliminating general aviation altogether would have even more severe consequences. It would severely limit transportation options, especially in remote areas without access to commercial airports. This could impact emergency medical services, law enforcement, and disaster relief efforts. In addition, the aviation industry supports many jobs and generates billions of dollars in economic activity each year.
However, it is important to ensure that general aviation is regulated in a way that promotes safety and security. A balance between regulation and support for the industry is necessary to maintain the benefits of general aviation while also addressing any potential risks.
Question 2
Cargo carriers like FedEx operate a complex supply chain involving various stages from pickup to delivery. While air cargo is mainly used for legitimate purposes, there are risks of it being used for attacks, such as smuggling illegal substances or weapons. Cargo carriers take security seriously and implement measures like screening procedures and employee background checks to mitigate these risks. Although air cargo can be vulnerable to attacks, stringent security measures and cooperation with authorities help ensure its safe transportation.
