The purpose of this assignment is to apply what you've learned throughout the course to a sport-related film. You must choose a feature length (meaning 40 minutes or longer) film or documentary. This assignment is NOT a synopsis of the film. I want you to synthesize information from the text, PowerPoint presentations, module content and the film. As you begin to "connect the dots" discuss how the concepts relate to you personally. For example, has your perception of sport changed as a result of the film or other class content? This is your chance to apply what you've learned throughout the semester.

There are a variety of films you could use for this assignment. A great place to look is ESPN's 30 for 30 series. As a reminder, you are not permitted to use 42 or Remember the Titans, Miracle, Coach Carter or The Blind Side.

This writing prompt is from KINES 2600! This course considers both the popular fascination and the academic investigation of sport in American society. Some philosophers and sociologists argue that sport has become the one cultural activity that most effectively overcomes distinctions of race, class, gender, ethnicity, politics, and religion, to bind Americans in a community of shared values and aspirations. Students will explore the unifying power of sport, as well as how sport serves to reproduce social inequalities present in society.
