In generating alternative solutions, the parties to a negotiation are both participating. What happens when the other side presents a potential solution for consideration? Some negotiators may have difficulty accepting that someone other than themselves can come up with the right alternative that will lead to a resolution. Sometimes, as a negotiator, you may feel that you're losing because of agreeing on something that you did not originally consider and which may be proposed by your negotiating partner. You have to learn not to be locked into this feeling of inferiority if the "idea is not yours." You have to be able and step back to see if this really makes sense regardless of whose idea it is.
