Assignment:
The purpose of health information technology (HIT) systems across the U.S. health care system is to facilitate the delivery, administration, and payment of health care. It improves the efficacy of health care professionals, facilitates the management of chronic conditions, and effectively promotes patient safety and enhanced care delivery. By seamlessly incorporating Health Information Technology (HIT) into the provision of care, providers can enable beneficiaries to receive more efficient and effective care, facilitate secure data sharing in real time, and enhance communication and data sharing for treatment referrals (National Academies Press (US), 2022).
Electronic health records (EHRs) facilitate the exchange of clinical data. Benefits include the ability to share images and patient records, which facilitates enhanced data accessibility for clinicians. Implementing best practices for patient care and enhancing patient safety via instruments like medication reconciliation. EHRs possess the capacity to mitigate medical errors, accelerate team decision-making processes, lower healthcare expenditures, enhance administrative efficacy, diminish paperwork, and advance patient safety when implemented in a suitable manner (National Academies Press (US), 2022).
Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) enhance the processes of care delivery. It aids in the process of medical decision-making and, when implemented appropriately, has the potential to significantly enhance clinical performance. The functionalities may encompass allergy notifications, pop-up reminders for medication doses or interactions, automated calculations or notifications, and specialized electronic views that present pertinent patient data. (Fondahn et al., 2016) The Clinical Decision Support (CDS) principles may be as straight forward as an allergy alert or as complex as adhering to a clinical pathway or guideline.
