Does the Myth of Er compromise Plato's arguments that Justice is a thing good in itself? If the Just man is rewarded with heaven and the evil man with hell, then aren't we back to saying that Justice is only good for it's rewards (in the afterlife)? If we found a cosmic ring of Gyges that could fool God into letting us into heaven no matter what we had done, would there be any reason to be Just?
