• The essay task enables the student to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of the English Legal system as well as business law within a corporate and business environment. It also provides the students an opportunity to apply knowledge of business and company to business decision making
• The essay task provides the students an opportunity to demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between company law, corporate governance as well as ethics in various business practices.
• The report task enables the students to use their understanding of the relationship between business, law and ethics to evaluate as well as reflect on various (including controversial) business practices.
• The report task provides the students an opportunity to explore theory relating to the intersection of business, law and ethics within a wider political, legal, economic, sociological and environmental context.
• The report task provides the students an opportunity to explore alternative recommendations on the relevant ethics based model/system that would work best for organisations.
TASK
Assignment 1 - 1500 words
Kim has just graduated from the University of Business and has applied for a summer internship with a business consultancy firm called London Business Advisory (whose main clients are large business sellers of products and commodities).
Kim has just found out that she has received an invitation to interview for an internship. Kim is aware that if she impresses members of the various departments at London Business Advisory, it may lead to a permanent contract at the firm. Kim has been told by Matthew, the HR Manager at London Business Advisory, that during the internship, the successful candidate would spend time in the Client Corporate Advisory Division. As part of the interview process, Kim is given a set of questions/tasks beforehand to prepare.
Kim is asked to prepare the following:
1. To read the article setting out Lord Sumption's speech in Oxford University (2017) regarding the interpretation of contracts and to answer the following:
