Assignment:

There is a great deal of discussion around the topic of "innovation" in healthcare and specifically in nursing. Where does innovation originate from? What is the spark that results in the creation of new ideas? Perhaps the history of healthcare informatics is a prime example of the ingredients necessary to produce innovation or perhaps just leaps in progression of care.

Select and review 3 interviews. Analyze and discuss the following:

Identify the names of the nursing leaders in the three selected videos along with their major contributions to nursing informatics.
Identify the variables that enabled the nursing leaders to eventually make their contributions. For example, was it an opportunity to work in a new area? A mentor? A specific experience that triggered their interest and eventual efforts? Was there exposure to stakeholders different from the individual?
Compare and contrast the different contributions to patient care and the profession of nursing. How are the contributions related?
As nursing leaders, how do we recognize or create these types of opportunities for ourselves and our staff? How do we enable ourselves and others to have the courage to risk the unknown?
Reflect on how this assignment impacted your knowledge and wisdom.
