Assignment:

1. Obesity rates have been steadily climbing in the U.S. for the past 4 decades. Thinking about your own community what are some of the reasons you see contributing to this? (Think about the social-ecological model and consider the different environmental factors that influence behavior and the different levels of influence that you described last week).

2. Page 5 lists "Consequences of Obesity". What else would you add to this list? What do you see as the biggest consequence of rising obesity rates?

3. Pages 8-11 discuss the impact of COVID-19 on weight. Based on the graphic on page 10 from the American Psychological Association Pandemic Survey, which age groups are at the greatest risk of weight gain during the pandemic? Does this surprise you? Explain. How has the pandemic affected your own eating behaviors, weight gain or loss? (Note: if you do not feel comfortable answering the part of the question about eating behaviors and weight gain/loss - you may skip this part and it does not have to be entered into the grade - otherwise please complete it).

4. On page 12 there is a definition of Social Determinants of Health. Is this a new term to you, or have you heard this term before? Provide an example of how an individual's social determinants of health can increase or decrease their risk for obesity.

5. On pages 16 and 17 Angela Odoms-Young, Ph.D. provides a Q &A. She provides her answer to "What are typical assumptions about obesity that are wrong." Have you found assumptions about obesity that are wrong? Explain.
