One example of a company that has a simple structure organization configuration is my husband's business, 3C Bees Apiary, LLC. This is a small, family-owned business. My husband keeps bees in our backyard and sells the honey at farmer's markets. He is the owner, and my daughter and I help him harvest, pack the product, and sell it at the farmer's market.
My example of a company of a machine bureaucracy business would be the Honda Marysville Plant. The Marysville manufacturing plant opened in 1982. Operations include assembly, sub-assembly, welding, and painting. Honda runs a simple and stable operation environment at this plant. As our textbook states, "In machine bureaucracy, standardized production work is the norm. These structures use elaborate work rules, considerable numbers of middle-line managers, and distinctive line and staff management configurations." (Reilly & Minnick, 2014 Chapter 3.5). Honda has adapted to significant market changes and kept this plant open for over 30 years.
Organizations would benefit from the professional bureaucracy structure, employ highly skilled professionals, and the organizations built on delivering goods and services. This type of professional organization must comply with governing bodies. One example of this kind of organization would be a law firm.
Divisional organizations use the method of diversification strategy as the primary form of business. Diversification of business means the company becomes a multi-market or multiproduct operation. One good example of this kind of organization would be Samsung. Samsung has several lines of electronic products. The three most significant divisions are consumer electronics, device solutions, and IT and mobile.
Adhocracies are organic and dynamic formalizations and have a limited life. They last for the life of the project and dissolved after. They have a limited and temporary work environment. Big corporations use an adhocracy structure to run projects. "Typically, the adhocracy structure is most effective when used for developing nonroutine solutions and projects and where flexibility is required." (Reilly & Minnick, 2014, Chapter 3.5) My company, Covetrus North America LLC, uses this structure to run several project groups. All projects have strict deadlines and involve high-level professionals.
