The Article Summary Grading Rubric

Purpose of the study: The article summary provides a brief review of the theory and research that inspired the study. The purpose of the study is clearly stated.

Major hypotheses/research questions: The hypothesis(es) or research question(s) is/are clearly and correctly stated.

Method: The discussion of the study's method includes a description of the sample, materials/instruments, procedure, and design. All information is provided in sufficient detail so that the reader can undertand the study's methodology.

Results: The summary includes the results of all statistics computed (descriptive and inferential). The summary is well-organized and easy to follow.

Discussion: The overall findings of the study relative to previous research and theory are described in detail. The summary discusses limitations of the present study and provides suggestions for future research.
