In the progress of my Gemba walk project it has been quite rewarding for me. It has helped me in areas I need to work on such as growth, opportunity, structure, communication and leadership. As I am a full-time student I am no longer working for my previous employer which was Quest Diagnostics Laboratory, In the beginning of initiating this assignment I had reached out to my supervisor in the attempt to gather information and gathering useful resources to build my Gemba project, but I was unsuccessful due to timing and lack of communication. Therefore, my SBAR was research based and advised by Professor Diane to research a local hospital in the lieu of Gemba Walk. The hospital I chose is Casterton Memorial Hospital.

What has been the most challenging part of your capstone project?

What advice would you give to your classmates who are also working on their capstone projects?

Student 1 ch. The most challenging part of my capstone that I am experiencing is getting participation and feedback from my peers. My team still struggles with training and need additional guidance on some of the basics shown to them during the on boarding phase of their employment. In addition, I am finding that with consistent and open communication with them, they are becoming more receptive to my ideas that I have for the organization and the team I am leading. My advice for my peers is to be transparent and clear on what their motives for their proposals and goals are to ensure success of the organization and to ensure they are providing the highest quality of care for their patients. This allows me to gain consensus with my peers and my team to get them on board with what I am proposing for them. What also becomes a challenge is when my team finds it difficult to see my point of view when I have gone through my Gemba walk and I am now proposing a new procedure to them that can improve ways of working and overall efficiency and patient care over all. In this instance what works for me, is allowing the team to see how a simple change can improve the care they are providing to our patients.

Student 2 hel. The most challenging part of my capstone project was figuring out exactly what information needed to be added. I did not want to sound too repetitive even though I felt many of the information required some of the same information to be repeated. I really wanted to get a good way so trying to understand how to word everything all of the data information I gathered. The advice I would give to other classmates for the future would be to take your time to one understand everything you need to add to your capstone project and two to take your time. Taking your time will help you plan out the information and your work accordingly so you do not miss anything. Check with the professor for clarification if you do not understand something so you get an understanding of what they are looking for since they are grading the assignment. I wish luck to all the future classmates in this course because the assignments are super beneficial for you and your work and in life.
