Assignment:

The past five authors (Singer, Taylor, Noonan, Thomson, and Marquis) discuss what ethical rules, values, and expectations govern how we treat beings that are in some fundamental way different from adult humans, including animals and unborn humans. Call these discussions the ethics of "marginal" individuals. Broadly speaking, do you think that reflecting on the ethics of marginal individuals is more, less, or equally important than reflecting on the ethics of how to treat adult humans (as illustrated, for example, by discussions of consequentialism and deontology)? Why?
