Your Dropbox assignments will all be working toward your final project in which you recommend and defend a new corporate social responsibility (CSR) project for a global, publicly traded organization.
Early in Week 1, you will submit to your instructor for approval the names of two to three global, publicly traded organizations you would be interested in recommending a social responsibility project to.
(Hint: The Fortune 500 list of companies is a good source for this kind of information).
Once your instructor confirms the company you will use for your project, you will need to research the chosen organization through primary and secondary sources and investigate the corporation's mission and vision statement and code of ethics. Identifying the CSR cause involves coordinating the organization's publicly stated mission and code of ethics with an appropriate social cause or nonprofit organization.
If you find that your chosen organization already has a selected cause, do not use that cause for your assignments. Identify another social cause or nonprofit organization that you believe would be a good fit with your chosen organization. You will actually begin seeking a social cause in the Week 2 assignment and make a final decision on which program you will select in Week 3.
The CSR recommendation will detail why the social cause or nonprofit organization was chosen and show how supporting that entity will positively impact your chosen organization. In essence, you want to consider why being socially responsible is a good idea for your business.
For example, you may decide that you want to select Google as your global, publicly traded organization. In doing research on Google, you find that it supports a number of charities, including improving computer science education, empowering women and girls, and fighting trafficking and child abuse. For this session-long project, you should identify another cause for Google to support beyond what it is already doing.
