Context
In the dynamic 21st century economy where mobility is often not only possible but also integral to a successful career, being able to work in an intercultural and diverse environment is essential. Organisations frequently need their people to develop their capacity to work effectively in diverse teams and resolve or diffuse conflicts and miscommunication quickly and efficiently.
The keys to your ability to work effectively in intercultural and diverse teams are the development of emotional intelligence and awareness of cultural differences.
Emotional intelligence enables the ability to consciously examine group and team dynamics in real time in order to facilitate effective individual and team performance.
This assessment aims to develop your understanding of how intercultural and diverse teams function, and how you can use this knowledge to help them develop into high performing teams.
Instructions
Good example of a dysfunctional team in the Learning Activity 5.9: Project X Team Case. Watch the two Project X videos and reflect and analyse the dynamics and roles you observe within the team.
You do not have team-members' scores for Emotional Intelligence, Gallup Strengths, or cultural differences and diversity, so you need to apply what you have learnt in BIZ102 to discuss what you think these would be.
a. Discuss the emotional intelligence (EI) and cultural differences and diversity for Project X each group member demonstrates in the videos.
b. Reflect on each member's contribution to conflict and weakness in the group, and how these may be improved with reference to (EI) and cultural differences and diversity.
c. Imagine you are sitting at the table with this Project X group. Discuss how your top 5 Gallup Strengths could assist the group to function more effectively, or why your Gallup Strengths would not be helpful to the team.
d. Given what you have learnt about yourself in BIZ102, discuss which aspect of your own emotional intelligence, Gallup Strengths, or cultural & diversity attitudes you most need to develop to become an effective member of a work team like Project X.
For all of the above, use information from the BIZ102 Learning Resources to support and justify your ideas. These must be cited and referenced using the APA 7th Edition style of referencing.
Your report should:
- Be presented in a formal business report format.
- Include an Executive Summary (not included in the word count), formal introduction (where you state the purpose of the paper and how it proceeds - i.e. the structure) and logical headings and sub-headings that generally match the instructions and steps in this brief.
- Identify theoretical concepts reviewed in modules 1-5 that support your reflection. Include at least five academic references to learning resources for this subject that present the theoretical concepts identified, to support your ideas.
