OPTION A: Discuss the Edward Snowden case in light of the debate over national security vs civil liberties. Do you think his revelations were important, harmful, or both? Why? In light of his revelations about government spying on average citizens, do you think changes should be made to the way the government conducts business? Be sure to reference material from lectures and/or the Bill of Rights. You may take any side, and you may approach this from the standpoint of the War on Terror, but be sure to also consider it in light of its long-term impact.
OPTION B: Discuss the al-Aulaki case in light of the debate over national security vs civil liberties and guarantees to a fair trial for U.S. citizens. Do you think the government did the right thing in this instance? Do you think the government should be allowed to carry out extrajudicial death warrants on U.S. Citizens in general? Be sure to reference material from lectures and/or the Bill of Rights. You may take any side; and you may approach this from the standpoint of the War on Terror, but be sure to also consider it in light of its long-term impact.
