Question: Write a research term paper on one work of art, artifact, craft work or architecture. The paper is to include bibliography, footnotes/citations, pictures of the image being described, and 10 pages of text.

If it helps I recommend you break down the paper into three major parts:

1) Description of the artwork being discussed

2) Person who created the work, or artistic period and culture the piece comes from

3) Impact of this piece upon the artist's career, or subsequent art movements and artists

If you approach it in this manner, it will go smoothly.

I suggest you describe the work of art as though I have never seen it before, or I am blind. So, you would describe in basic point of scale, texture, materials or media its created in, colors, if persons are in the piece, who they are and what are they doing, etc. Next, you would go into any symbolism of the subject (colors, imagery) or the place in which the place is created, - so if it were a building describe the city it is located and period in which it is built, materials for building it, etc. Being thorough is best in this part of the paper.

The second part of the paper is a biography of the artist, or a description of the culture it comes from.

The last part of the paper is to describe it impact upon the artists' career, or how it influenced later artists or art movements, etc.

Whenever it occurs you use a source for your research, like a book, magazine article, internet source, video, etc, always cite the source where it occurs in your text of the paper. Note it as follows:

(author's last name, page#) at the end of a sentence where your source helped you write this part of your paper

If it is an internet source, the put the URL in parentheses after the sentence where you it should occur in the text.

At the end of the term paper you should have all your sources listed in alphabetical order in the Bibliography page.

You may use other works of art in the text of your paper if they apply to the piece you are researching, so if you are writing about Frida Kahlo, well there are a number of her works to refer and compare it with. You can include those in your paper as point of comparison either in text, or using an image.
