SAMSUNG was the giant in the smart phones industry for many years until several other brands joined in on the race. After, it was difficult for SAMSUNG to retain its customers as many made the switch to other brands. SAMSUNG's marketing team identified the root cause of the customer brand switching, which was the add-on features and applications provided by the competitors.
To address this, SAMSUNG added several features, created more customer value, and launched the "Application Contest", where customers who downloaded the applications the most would be gifted a SAMSUNG smart phone. These efforts helped SAMSUNG to acquire new customers and retain the existing ones.
