You are making up a story of 19th-century life based on our course material. you are looking at the (early 19th century NYC) Here, you should create a character and have your character discuss what you find most fascinating, compelling, or upsetting. Then, your character is talking about that material.

Your character may discuss anything it wants during this period, but it needs to be during the era we are discussing. So, you do need to discuss the Civil War, but you can talk about how events earlier in the century formed the moment. For instance, NYC didn't regain access to its ports until after the War of 1812. Thus, you can easily make a character talk about growth and expansion while connecting it back to the canals of the early 19th century. Then, this growth and expansion connect to the fears and struggles during the Civil War.

You have to continue to use analysis and context to tell your story. You should be creative and have fun.
