Assignment: Your initial discussion thread is due and you have to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses.
Peer Collaboration
Volunteering or interning has often been a way for students to gain experience that will serve them after graduation. While many of you have extensive work experience, aiming to enter another field, advancing in the organization, or applying to graduate school can all be goals that are helped by an internship or volunteer opportunities.
In this peer forum, you will find an internship or volunteer opportunity that would interest you. There is no requirement for your degree work to volunteer or intern, but this will clarify the options available if you choose to go that route.
Present your chosen internship or volunteer opportunity to peers: explain what the position entails and how you think it will give you skills valuable in your future career. Note that there is no need for an actual posting or announcement to be posted, you can locate and describe an organization you find suitable for the skills you would like to develop.
Places to look could include (but are not limited to) the following:
• AAA's List:
• Local Historical Societies
• Local Museums
• Local Archaeological excavations
• Research projects carried out by researchers at local universities
• Non-profit organizations working on social and humanitarian issues, such as homeless and women shelters, organizations for immigrants, organizations advocating LGBTQ rights.
Guided Response: Respond to at least two of your peers. Discuss their chosen internship and the skills you think they might acquire through it.
