In the 1960s, the U.S. Supreme Court, under Chief Justice Earl Warren, became increasingly concerned about what it saw as serious flaws in the way the states administered capital punishment. This concern lead to a series of events among which were a ruling of the Furman v. Georgia (1972); Gregg v. Georgia (1976); Ring v. Arizona (2002); and the bifurcated process. Discuss the significance each of the case noted above had on the death penalty. Discuss what the bifurcated process is and how did it come about in relations to the above-mentioned Supreme Court case(s).
