In this assignment, you will be responsible for combing through the course reader (Documents from the African Past) and selecting two, related PRIMARY SOURCES that pique your interest and around which you will ultimately construct your research papers.

Then, you will need to identify TWO (2) more related SECONDARY SOURCES that will provide context for and inform your research paper.

This proposal should include the following information in independent paragraphs and should be at least 500 words:

Present your thesis that you have formed from a careful reading of the PRIMARY SOURCE materials you selected.

Discuss the background or larger trend within African history in which you intend to locate your arguments (ex. The colonial period, the Atlantic Slave Trade, the independence era, etc...)

Discuss the nature (ex. Author's origin, purpose of the publication, publication dates, positionality of the writer) of your PRIMARY SOURCES

Discuss how your PRIMARY SOURCES relate to your SECONDARY SOURCES
