A pixel is said to be an edge pixel if the difference of its intensity with its neighbor(s) is greater than a threshold. This definition is not useful in color images. An edge in a color image can be defined using only the luminance field. This definition ignores discontinuities in hue and saturation that occur in regions of constant luminance. Another definition is to judge a color edge present if an edge exists in any of its components. A third possible definition is based on the gradient of the components.
Mention some of the possible methods for edge detection in color images
Discuss the application areas of each method
Implement the methods you listed above using MATLAB. Show the output of applying each method to a sample image.
