You have been working for ABC Company for five years in a technical role. In the past two years, you have identified management as an important career goal. As part of your plan to gain the necessary education and skills, you have completed several management and leadership seminars and are about to done two-year, part-time Management Certificate program. Despite your learning plan and strong work ethic, your applications to be considered for management roles have been unsuccessful. The response is always that you show great potential but lack practical experience and skills.

Over lunch with a colleague, you have learned that your direct supervisor will be taking a year-long maternity leave. Immediately, you see this pending vacancy as an opportunity for you to gain practical experience in what could be treated as a 'developmental' position for you.
