Question: Choose two of the three prompts below and respond to them using plenty of facts as evidence to support the arguments that you make. You do not need to write out the questions, just indicate the number of each question you are answering. The first two prompts refer to the entire time period 1870-1940 so make sure your response to those two look at the entire time period. Do not leave the exam page in Canvas or use any sources while taking the exam.
Industrialism had a large impact on the entire time period 1870-1940. With that in mind, and thinking about the entire time period, who were the winners and losers during the period 1870-1940? Keep in mind that the winners and losers might change during different periods and regarding different issues but your main focus should be with regard to the impact of industrialism.
The year is 1940 and the United States has gone through a period of dramatic change since the end of the Civil War. You are tasked with creating a monument, Mount Mushroar, to depict American history over that time period using four faces carved in a mountain. You should not simply choose faces to celebrate that person or America more generally but to describe America through those faces -- the good and the bad. Those faces may be real or imagined - you, for example, could use actual people (Theodore Roosevelt, for example) or generic faces (a black woman to represent all people of African descent or a Jewish man to represent all immigrants) as long as those faces make sense with regard to the arguments you are making. You should consider the entire time period (1870-1940) as well as the diversity of experience for the people living in America during that time period. The faces you choose should - through their qualities, traits, characteristics, beliefs actions, etc - reflect as much as you can about America during that time period. Keep in mind that you are using those faces to describe America during that roughly 70 year time period so one or two things about each face is too little.
Fully discuss the 1920s -as a response to progressivism and World War I; in terms of the consumer revolution; in relation to the cultural clash of the decade; and with regard to events leading to the Great Depression. Use plenty of evidence to support your arguments.
