This has brought an awareness of how health events in other countries can impact people in the United States. The amount of data that is collected by CDC, WHO, NIH, and other organizations is staggering and will continue to increase with the capabilities of the electronic health record, interoperability, and technological advancements.
Today health information exchange encompasses how the patient gets their healthcare data online, sharing health information across different healthcare systems provides quality of care and elimination of duplication in tests.
