QUESTION 2

Directions

As you learned in the lecture, one of the components of an effective language and literacy curriculum is intentional selection of high quality texts for instruction. For your reflection this week, imagine you are a teacher in an ECE center. Your director has asked you to help select some new texts to add to the classroom libraries in the building.

Select two age groups from the following list: infant, toddler, preschool, early school age.
Then, using the guidelines provided in this week's lecture on selecting high quality texts, find one text that would be appropriate for each of the two age groups you chose. This means you should choose two books total, one for each age group.

For both selected books, write a paragraph in which you:
Identify the title and author of the book, as well as the format or genre of the book (i.e. alphabet book, big book, fairytale, etc.).
Refer to this week's lecture for a list of more book genres and formats.
Please provide a weblink to the selected book so your instructor can better understand what you are writing about.
Reflect upon why the book is appropriate for the age group chosen and explain how it meets the guidelines for selecting high quality text.
Be sure to provide specific examples.
Detail how you would utilize the text in instruction to focus on one of the six main literacy skills examined in this week's lecture (phonemic/phonological awareness, print concepts, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency or writing).
