Question

Active listening is an approach to improving communication through techniques to help better decode the message received from the sender, clarify the message, and respond appropriately (Wienclaw, 2019 para. 21). I work with a stubborn person and her job specifically is to evaluate insurance various of policies.

She struggles with paying attention and lacks the ability to process the documents at a fast pace. It is difficult working with her, because she is a selective listener and is stuck in her ways. She is afraid of change and doesn't like to be told how to do her job.

The communication between her and management is awful. She becomes combative and emotional. When I communicate with her, I try to exclude communication barriers such as walking away or misunderstanding her. I also change my body language by crossing my arms and tilting my head. I listen but my responses are very short and my face expression is shows I am uninterested.

Bad communication with her has caused, the team to suffer. While management is out of office, employees have to try to remain motivated to work around this person. I truly believe if she was an active listener things will be different. By this, she will perform better, collaborate with the team, and accomplish the goals.
