Assignment:

At the turn of the twentieth century, new subjects emerge in two senses. First as a source of knowledge (subjectivity and experience) as well as the object of knowledge. Taking this shift from earlier theories of society that emphasized the self in relation to society (i.e. Durkheim, Marx, Weber) discuss how Freud, DuBios, Simmel and/or Mead and conceptualized "the self" and what this self tells us about society.

Tip: Be sure to illustrate how the self emerges for each theorist and what the primary struggle of the self is.
