During this module, we discussed several perspectives of criminal justice and how these perspectives can influence the manner in which we view the effectiveness of policy (or of the system as a whole). For this assignment, you are required to find a newspaper article or news story, published since January 1, 2018 that addresses criminal justice policy and apply at least two of the perspectives discussed during this module.
These stories should not be sensationalized articles (e.g., professional athletes or entertainers) or brief articles from such sources as the Associated Press (I've included some tips below to help you identify an appropriate article). Instead, these stories should illustrate some of the concepts and issues we've discussed during this module.
Include a link to the article in your post and compose a well though out description of the current issue as well as a discussion of the perspective mentioned in the module. To compose a successful post, use and cite information from assigned chapter from Worrall, J. L. (2019). Crime Control in America: What Works? 4th Ed. Boston, MA.
Locating an article:
- The best place to find articles for this assignment will be in journalistic newspapers (e.g., The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, etc.). For the most part, I'd suggest you avoid simple articles on MSNBC, FoxNews, CNN, etc. or any political blog. Of course all of these news sites can provide good journalism, but for this assignment most of the articles will be inappropriate.
- Avoid articles related to "celebrated cases." The article you select will likely not be headline news. Instead, the articles you should have in-depth analysis of a particular issue.
- Avoid short articles (several paragraphs) from just sources as the AP, Reuters, etc.
-Revealed a solid understanding of the topic as evidenced by thoughtful responses and question.
