Discuss risks and biases for a chosen organization. How can they affect analysis? AND...How could you minimize resistance to the use of analytics-based decision-making?
The common risk factors such as strategic risks and operational risks are found in the company. The biases are halo effects, stereotype thinking, and other biases that disrupt the recruitment and other important processes and decrease the motivation of employees.
The main risks found in the organization are strategic and operational risks. The strategic risks take place due to the inability to have visionary leadership and unskilled senior management to formulate better strategies. The resultant effect is well thought out plans that the company articulates do not produce desired results. Another kind of risk is operational risks. The daily operation of the company is not well planned as overlapping of responsibilities is found in the organization due to ambiguous job arrangements and lack of employees. Financial risks also stem from poor financial resources availability. The poor financial condition of the organization does not support it to take initiative for future growth.
As far as the biases of the peoples are concerned, there are certain biases such as the halo effect and stereotype thinking amongst the senior managers. Often women do not get promoted within the hierarchical ladder due to stereotype thinking. Managers are also a victim of selective perceptions and they treat the employees differently and this creates a lack of motivation among employees. Employees are suffered from first impression bias as well and examples are some of the managers who did well in earlier assignments are often regarded as better than other managers even if they do not perform well.
The resistance of employees can be mitigated by data analytics decision making because the evidence is presented to them to convince them how the decisions are formulated. The data analytics technique can be useful to drive the performance of employees. It can be used to mitigate the risk factors. Therefore, communication regarding the benefits of the data analytics decision making process and benefits reaped by this approach should be taught to employees to mitigate their resistance.
