The term paper will involve writing a research paper on one of the topics that will be covered in this course. Following is a list of suggested topics:
Compare and contrast at least two major software development methodologies.
Discuss Planning and Management issues associated with software development.
Discuss Object-Oriented databases.
Describe the integration of legacy systems with OO developed systems.
Describe OO methodology shortfalls and limitations.
Discuss the requirements for making web application accessible.
Discuss the security requirements of a web application.
You can also select a topic which is not included above but it must be approved by me. See the due dates below for approval process.
Expectations:
The paper shall be 10-12 pages in length, double spaced text, not counting references. Limit diagrams to no more than 20% of the content.
The goal of this assignment is to allow you to focus on independent study in an area in which you have personal interest (Database, Security, Software Design, Web Design) and go deeper into the topic than we can cover in our in-class survey of topics.
I have no expectations of deep insights (you will be striving for that in your capstone project!), but rather a competent summary of what you have discovered in your independent study.
Use the Turabian Style for your paper. I am not looking for perfection in the paper as far as format, but I do expect you to be consistent in your presentation. See the syllabus for more information.
