In this assignment, you should show that you understand that the way you see your relationship to the land and farming is not a universal way of seeing the land and farming.

As you write, you should consider the following: What shapes your experiences? Some of us come from a family of farmers. Some of us come from a family of farmworkers. Some of us grew up with a garden in ourbackyard. Some of us grew up without enough to eat. Some of us grew up eating a lot of pre-made food. Someof us have worked or volunteered on a farm. Some of us have worked hard to escape a life of farm labor ormanual labor. History, culture, race, gender, sexuality, class or economic position can all shape how weexperience agricultural labor or the stories we tell ourselves about farming and farm labor. What kind of vulnerability does each individual (you, farmer, farmworker, community gardener) face? What kind of powerdoes each individual have? How much choice does one have in participating in this labor? What are theconsequences for refusing? What are the rewards for participating? How much say does the participant haveover the conditions of labor?
You are allowed to use "I" here. Much like your first two community-based learning assignments, you want to show that you can reflect on your own experiences, identity, and position in society in relation to course material. Here you will be using a conventional five paragraph essay structure in the second part.
