Problem

Recruiting research subjects can be challenging; keeping them committed to a long-term study can prove to be even more difficult. One way to improve participation is to offer incentives, if funding is available. However, the incentives should reasonably match what the subjects will be asked to do in terms of time and effort.

Consider this reading- Halpern SD, Chowdhury M, Bayes B, et al. Effectiveness and ethics of incentives for research participation: 2 randomized clinical trials. JAMA Intern Med. 2021;181(11):1479-1488. doi:10.1001/jamainternmed.2021.5450

Visit ClinicalTrials gov website and identify an ongoing or completed clinical trial that is of interest to you. Provide a brief summary of the study design, patient roles, and timeframe of the study. Include the trial identifier number a link to the trial page.

Discuss two potentials ways to offer incentives to participation. If you feel that the potential direct benefits of participation are significant, and no monetary or other compensation is warranted, provide your reasoning. What types of bias is this study most subject to?
