1. Artifacts have features which together constitute strong evidence that such artifacts are made by an intelligent designer.

2. The universe resembles a machine/artifact in just these respects.

3. Therefore, probably, the universe was produced by an intelligent designer.

A. Paley says we would infer that a watch has a designer (because it has parts arranged for a purpose) even if certain things were true of it. What are the things he mentions?

B. "Have we not the same reason to trace that ideal world into another ideal world or new intelligent principle? But if we stop and go no farther, why go so far? Why not stop at the material world? How can we satisfy ourselves without going on ad infinitum?" What point is Hume making here?
