Description:

Choose a megaproject related to one of the major northern resource bases (forestry, oil and gas, mining, water) that have been subject to controversy in the media. Discuss the different stakeholder (indigenous, public, political, environmental, etc.) perceptions of the problem. Students will produce a ~8-10 minute voice annotated PowerPoint presentation on your findings that will be shared with the class.

The format of the presentation can vary with individual ideas but should clearly identify the context of the megaproject controversy and highlight the varying stakeholder opinions, compare popular media conclusions to known facts and discuss the significance and implications of the issue on the Canadian North. You should draw on both academic literature and popular media.
