2. Personally interpret and communicate historical problems in early Canadian history (writing history). These are skills developed in writing essays (up to 2,000 words), comparative book reviews, library, on-line and field research exercises, and a two-hour final examination
Instructions and Details - Students will have to produce 2 argumentative essays.
Each essay must be 1500 words and 5-7 well-developed paragraphs. Each essay must be argumentative (don't just describe what happened! Argue!). You must include a clear thesis statement in the introduction paragraph.

1. Discuss the positive and negative impact of large-scale immigration in the post-Conquest period (1763-1867) on the various communities in British North America. What was the most important group of immigrants for defining the social character of the BNA colonies?
2. Discuss the role of the fur trade and company rivalries in the expansion of Canada. Was the late-eighteenth and early nineteenth-century fur trade a net positive or negative impact on First Nations in the northwest and Pacific regions?
