Personal Data

Bobby is a Customer Service Officer of Hongkong Service Limited (‘HSL’). Bobby’s duty is to provide security services to a private residential estate managed by HSL. Yesterday, Bobby was summarily dismissed by HSL on the grounds of unauthorized absence from duty. Based on images captured by a secret camera installed by HSL, Bobby was found to have lingered for more than one hour in a changing room while he was on duty during the past week. Bobby is dissatisfied and feels that HSL invaded his privacy by collecting his personal data via a secret camera without his knowledge. HSL does not have a privacy policy pertaining to employee monitoring and has never informed its employees that they might be monitored. Bobby intends to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.
