Project Toy "R" Us founded in 1948. At its peak, the company had over 800 stores across the United States and around the same number outside of the United States. On June 29, 2018 Toys "R" Us shutdown all its stores. On January 20, 2019, the company emerged from bankruptcy as Tru Kids.
