Question - What is a Superfund?

When contamination escalates or may pose a threat to life, then the site is classified as a superfund. Superfunds are often handled by private owners and the federal government to ensure that they are cleaned and remediated properly. To be truly classified as a superfund, the site was mismanaged with hazardous waste being dumped or left out in the open. These sites exist throughout the country and are listed on the National Priorities List (NPL). You can take a look at the list on the Environmental Protection Agency's website for more information on which sites are listed.

Choose two of the worst Superfund sites (on the National Priorities List) in at least two different states (groups are diverse, and members may be located in several states-use states in which members are located).
