MLA FORMAT

Some of the ramifications of social change in the United States include the social structure of the family; such as an influx of women into the workplace, same-sex marriage, an increased number of interracial marriages, online dating, and an increase in the number of children born outside of wedlock to name a few social changes within the family.

The following list briefly describes some recent social changes. Choose one topic below that you will research for your final paper:

• Interracial marriage

• Women in the military and the family

• Same-sex marriage

• Adoption of children by same-sex couples

• Females as the family breadwinner

• The effects of divorce upon children

• Disintegration of the traditional nuclear family

What have been the positive changes that have occurred within the family regarding your topic? Now take an opposing viewpoint. For example, what are the oppositions to same-sex marriage? What might someone who supports it say? Note: You must support your paper with five academic resources, also define and analyze one theoretical perspective from our text in your paper. Lastly, how would you deal with someone who has embraced a different family lifestyle if you encounter him or her at your next job? How do you think you might approach work and life differently?

Explain the positive changes and negative changes that have occurred within the family regarding your topic.

Discuss areas of social change: gender role changes, the effects of the economy, raising children and parenting styles, the influences of social media, religious views, and cultural differences

Analyze the understanding of sociological theory

Choose a theoretical perspective from our text (for example but not limited to: Conflict Theory, Symbolic Interactionism, or Functionalist Theory) ,discuss how the perspective or theoretical approach would explain the social change within the family

Discuss implications of social change and diversity within the family

What social problems pertaining to the family did you identify in researching your topic?

Identify a current event, or recent protest related to your topic- what is the protest about? How does it affect the changes in the family? Provide specific examples

Conclusion- (This is your summary paragraph): Restate what has already been stated in the paper:

What did you find surprising from your research? What are your future projections about the family form (your topic/issue) in society?

Paper Formatting and paper structure-this includes paper length 3-5 pages. If your paper is shorter of longer there will be points deducted. Please review the syllabus for basic information about the paper to include the margins, font, Times New Roman, MLA format.

Incorrect format, font size, margins, etc., will result in a deduction of points. A reference page and a cover page are also required. You should have at least 5 references on your works cited page to support your analysis of the family.
Wikipedia or other websites may not be used as a reference in this section. You should identify at least 2 references that are in academic journals. In addition, your text should be one of your references. A total of 5 academic sources should be used.
These sources may be journal articles, reputable websites (.edu, .gov, some .org sites- no .com web sites), other books, etc. to support your paper. Cover page should include your name, date, and title of the paper.
