In this course, you have been studying really two main items: science facts about energy and matter in different disciplines and critical thinking.

Most science classes focus on the facts of science and can end up being a lot of memorization. One thing we have not addressed in much detail though is the scientific method. This is usually what they focus on in science lab courses.

The scientific method is the process by which most all those science facts that you studied came from.

One reason we don't focus on the scientific method is that we figure if you have a question, you will not likely drop what you are doing to run an experiment to find your answer. You will most likely search the internet or other media for your answer.

That is why we focus on critical thinking, because it is used in the scientific method, but it is also a skill that you can use without developing a research program. However, it is important for you to familiarize yourself with the process of where scientific information comes from.

Peruse this website for how a scientist might answer a question. (If crunched for time just read the main paragraph for each of the major subtopics.)

Then in a post provide the following:

1) Give an example of a question that you might have in your future career or life. This could include questions about diet, exercise, medical treatments, or anything really.

2) Discuss where you would go to answer this question.

3) Discuss if a scientific source would be the best to answer the question.

4) Would science be the most appropriate source to answer your question? Provide reasons why or why not based on the method described at the website above.
