Choose 2 specific time periods/eras (one that impacted the U.S. and one that took place in another country) from ancient times to the present.
Examples of periods/eras: Babylonian Empire (Hummurabi's Code i.e. "eye for an eye" concept), the Renaissance, Colonial times (witch trials, use of public shaming), French Revolution (guillotine), the Reformation, Age of Enlightenment, Civil War, Civil Rights era, etc.
- Give a description of the time periods/eras and describe at least 2 prevalent crimes and their respective punishments from each era.
- Discuss if those crimes are still present today, how the punishments may or may not have changed and the impact on offending.
- Discuss the impact that social, political, economic and cultural factors had on crime during your chosen periods/eras and compare it to today's climate and criminal justice issues. Give 2 examples for each factor.
- Discuss how your periods/eras and other periods/eras have impacted our laws and shaped our field of criminal justice. Give two examples.
