Problem
The purpose of this assignment is to design an experiment that will test the following hypothesis: "Implementing a community-based restorative justice program will reduce recidivism rates among juvenile offenders more effectively than traditional juvenile detention." You have flexibility in designing the research (e.g., there is no one correct answer), but you want to keep your design realistic both in practical terms and in terms of being able to pass the Institutional Review Board scrutiny. In developing your design, please address the following questions:
A. Could help me by telling me which type of experimental design do you believe would be best suited to test this hypothesis? Could you explain. Why did you selected this technique?
B. Can you help me draw a diagram/illustration of your experimental design using the notation. I'm Not sure how to do that.
C. Can help me discuss how you would select a sample of individuals to participate in your experiment. Identify the sampling method, discuss the technique (e.g., if relevant, what would be your sampling frame, how would you select, etc.), and discuss any inclusion/exclusion criteria for participation. Write this with enough detail that someone could actually implement your sampling design.
D. If you have multiple groups in your experimental design, discuss how you would assign participants to these groups.
E. Discuss how you would measure your outcome variable. In discussing the measurement, make sure to both conceptualize and operationalize the variable.
F. Discuss how you would measure your treatment variable. In discussing the measurement, make sure to both conceptualize and operationalize the variable.
G. Discuss the two most serious threats to the validity of your design. These can be either threats to the internal or external validity of the study.
H. Lastly can you help me discuss any ethical issues with your design and how you might minimize them?
