You are a Senior Health Services Manager working in a public or private healthcare delivery setting (or facility) where service delivery predominantly focusses on curative care. In the context of increased debates on management of chronic and non-communicable diseases, you have received an extra allocated funding to improve the delivery of healthcare services in your healthcare setting moving away from a predominantly curative focus to an integrated (curative and preventive) healthcare services delivery model
As a Senior Health Services Manager, you are responsible for a change management plan addressing the following;
1. A clearly defined context of your organization within which change will take place - a brief description of the organizational setting being considered which could be your workplace or organization whose context you are well conversant with. Use the relevant frameworks for illustrating the organizational setting or design and the impact of the external environment to the organization.
2. A clearly defined need for the change i.e. problems and issues prompting change or improvement.
3.A clearly defined intended change (type of change and what exactly needs to be changed). this must be underpinned by theories/frameworks/approaches to change.
4.A clearly defined rationale for change (importance of considering change for these problems and issues and implications on the performance of the organization if the change is not implemented).
5.Map the process of change which you will employ using a relevant theory of change i.e. what will be you underpinning theory of change? You will need to choose and analysis your selected theory of change by justifying why you are choosing that theory, critique its strengths and weakness and how other theory will help you to develop your approach to managing the change at hand.
6.Discuss how you will then manage the change process using your approach designed in task 5.
7.Techniques which you will use for sustaining the change and stimulating innovation
8. Discuss the anticipated resistance to change and how you will manage it
Things to consider
You will need to draw on theoretical concepts around change management; functions and roles of a health services manager; health services organizations, external environment and any other theoretical concepts relevant to you change management proposal
Also draw on your experience and knowledge of how to write and present a proposal i.e. indicating the title and who the proposal will be submitted to.
Take time to understand Integrated Health Care and Primary Health Care models of care for you to be able to clearly define and justify the needed change.
Use of clear examples from the context which you are referring to for this assignment is critical to demonstrate your understanding and application of management theoretical concepts.
