Question: Consider the following situation: Emma and Aiden have been dating for about one year. Although they love each other, sometimes they can't understand why the other person behaves the way he/she does. Aiden tells Emma that he needs time alone each day to "gather his thoughts and rest." Emma does not need this time alone and prefers to be around other people most of the time. She is constantly making plans with friends and can't understand why Aiden doesn't want to join them. Aiden is very detailed oriented and likes to plan and be organized. Emma is spontaneous and likes to go with the flow even when that means that every detail cannot be accounted for in advance - she will figure it out later! Aiden gets frustrated when Emma changes plans at the last minute. Emma is creative and curious and loves to find new adventures by exploring without a plan - whether that is a trip to the mall or a trip across the world. Aiden prefers routine and generally has a practical approach to traveling - a predictable well organized itinerary.
A. Discuss how you believe both Emma & Aiden would score on a Big Five personality test in the following areas: Extraversion, Openness, and Conscientiousness (You can use descriptors such as "high on extraversion", "low on openness", or "In the middle for conscientiousness.")
B. How could knowledge of each other's Big Five Personality Factors help Emma & Aiden better understand each other? How might they work together to get both of their needs met in their relationship?
